A program is only as good as its results, and for 15+ years, Star Academy’s programming has yielded impressive, measurable results for at-risk students. Star Academy was designed to serve the “whole-student,” which is why both academic and social-emotional objectives are infused in each day’s work.

A Nationally Recognized Program

Star Academy’s dedication to dropout prevention earned the program a Crystal Star Award from the National Dropout Prevention Center. This momentous honor is awarded to elite programs that meet stringent dropout prevention best-practices and yield exemplary intervention results.

With Star-Academy, Berrien County Schools experienced impressive standardized test score improvements, as well as a dramatic 71% increase in student attendance rates.

The district also proudly announced in 2020 that 98% of its Star Academy completers are still in school and on-track to graduate!

Since 2014, five Star Academy programs in rural Mississippi have seen retention rates rise to 92%, while 84% of enrollees earned 2 grade level promotions in one year!

One of those programs (George County Schools – for more information, see video below) experienced tremendous growth in diplomas earned annually. In 2014, 67% of their students graduated high school. By 2020, that number had risen to 95%, earning George County the 4th highest graduation rate in the state.
