The
Star Academy Accelerator Award was presented to three South Carolina schools
for their success in helping at-risk students who had failed one or more
classes in the past to advance to the 10th grade. Winners of the
Accelerator Award for the 2007-2008 school year were John T. Simpson Alternative
Education Center in Easley, Estill High School in Estill, and Hanna-Westside
Extension Campus in Anderson.
In order to earn an Accelerator
Award, a program must advance at least 70 percent of its students (primarily
eighth graders) to the 10th grade in one school year.
The Star Academy Program™ has been
implemented in schools across South Carolina and recently was expanded to
