Three Star Academies Earn Accelerator Award

Simpson Alternative Education Center, Estill High School, and Hanna-Westside Extension Campus
The Star Academy Accelerator Award was presented to three South Carolina schools for their success in helping at-risk students who had failed one or more classes in the past to advance to the 10th grade. Winners of the Accelerator Award for the 2007-2008 school year were John T. Simpson Alternative Education Center in Easley, Estill High School in Estill, and Hanna-Westside Extension Campus in Anderson.

In order to earn an Accelerator Award, a program must advance at least 70 percent of its students (primarily eighth graders) to the 10th grade in one school year.

The Star Academy Program™ has been implemented in schools across South Carolina and recently was expanded to Florida. Learn more about the Star Academy Program.
