Couch, Kovacs Garner Star Academy Pathfinder Award

The Star Academy Pathfinder Award was presented to a pair of South Carolina officials at the Star Academy Symposium in Columbia on October 4, 2008.

State Director of Vocational-Technical Education Dr. Bob Couch and Department of Commerce Appalachian Regional Commission Program Manager Dr. Elizabeth Kovacs received the honor for their part in the planning, implementation, and funding of the Star Academy Program in South Carolina. The Star Academy is for accelerated learning and dropout prevention.

The Star Academy Pathfinder Award goes to state officials who help get the program off the ground and secure funding sources with which to implement the program. Couch and Kovacs’ faith in students’ abilities and resolve to help all students succeed and graduate led to their selection as recipients of this high honor.

The Star Academy Program has been implemented in schools across South Carolina and recently was expanded to Florida. Learn more about the Star Academy Program.
